Azulejos, or glazed ceramic tiles, are ubiquitous in Portugal. Found on walls, floors, ceilings and any other built surface, they depict legends, historical events as well as geometric decoration influenced by Arabia. They protect the buildings from heat, noise and moisture and are still an integral part of the country's architecture. As a subtle reminder of this patrimony and to revive its rich heritage at times when azulejo-thefts off buildings are on the rise, little azulejo books are designed using the azulejos of Lisbon. They can be kept in the pocket and of course, coloured upon one azulejo at a time.
